This series is a follow up to the original Ultraman and Ultra Seven.

The Gentle Crackdown is a TVB costume comedy series broadcast in May 2005. An indirect sequel, The Gentle Crackdown II was produced and broadcast in 2008 continued with only Wayne Lai, alongside Steven Ma, Yumiko Cheng, and Ha Yu.

The story takes place in the 1930s-40s era of Shanghai, the main focus is on Dave Wong's character “Hero/?” & Lawrence Ng’s character “Doctor/?”. Ada Choi plays a dance hall songstress. Dave Wong's 'Hero' was originally a rickshaw driver, who later became one of Shanghai's triad boss. William So plays a playboy character who has multiple romantic relationships with different women; starting off first as a thief, So eventually became a doctor after being 'healed' by Ng. Jackie Lui plays the role of a 1930s police officer.

Shuichi Minamida lives comfortably on the proceeds of his father's legacy, but he struggles with the idea that his beautiful wife, Moyako, no longer loves him. One day he confesses his worries to Kotoura, his dentist. Kotoura summons the Akechi detective agency and asks them to investigate his friend's wife, Miyako. Fumiyo, wife of agency head Kogoro Akechi, a talented detective in her own right, takes the case and begins her investigation. She soon notices that something strange is going on between Miyako and the dentist. This observation leads to a tragic ending which none of those involved could ever imagine.
