Rampo Noir (2005)
This horror anthology takes its cue from the short fiction of writer Taro Hirai, better known by his nomme du plume Edogawa Rampo - wordplay on the name of legendary writer Edgar Allan Poe. Acclaimed MV director Takeuchi Suguru begins proceedings with Mars Canal, which sees a naked man (Asano Tadanobu) collapse at the edge of a lake that descends, seemingly into the bowels of hell itself. This segment is used to effectively tie together the three main narrative segments of the film.
Mirror Hell, directed by Jissoji Akio, sees a detective (Asano again) following a trail of beautiful female corpses back to a mad mirror maker. The Caterpillar (by Sato Hisayasu) sees a limbless war veteran return home only to be systematically abused by his wife. And in Crawling Bugs, by manga artist Kaneko Atsushi, a chauffeur (Asano yet again) becomes obsessed with his actress employer.

Run by former social worker Lap, apm café is frequented by a group of troubled youth, each struggling with problems such as drug addiction and prostitution. One day, thanks to a chance that arises from coincidence, Tinky, one of the more troubled café-goers, decides to steal the diamond ring Triad boss Lung intended to give his wife for their third anniversary. Family Ties Gajokeui Tansaeng
ira (Moon So-Ri) is a shy, single woman who runs a small restaurant and tends her plants with love and care. Her life is thrown into mayhem when her brother Hyung-Chul (Uhm Tae-Woong), shows up out of the blue after a five years absence, some of them spent in jail. Hyung-Chul not only settles down at Mira's place but is soon joined by his new wife, Mu-Shin (Ko Du-Shim), a much older woman who smokes like a chimney - and Mira's a non-smoker. As if the house wasn't crowded enough, Mu-Shin's young stepdaughter knocks at Mira's door one day and moves in.
