Tomoya Kishida (Hayato Ichihara) is working as a staffer in a television studio when he hears about the death of his close friend, Aoi Sato (Juri Ueno). This sparks his recollection of the events in life they shared from meeting at a record store, shooting a short film as part of their university film club, to saying their last goodbyes. Though in love with each other, neither had the courage to confess their feelings before it was too late.

An old saying has it that it takes the first generation to create the business and the second one to destroy it. When the Tanaka Family's father, a career private eye, passes away, eldest daughter and mother figure Sayuri has to decide whether or not to continue the family detective business. Seeing no hope or interest on the part of her other younger siblings to carry on the business, she is about to shut it down when her long-lost elder brother, Ichiro, returns. A down-on-his-luck truck-driving single father now, he decides to take the mantle and continue the family tradition-his only experience being that he played cops and robbers as a kid. In his new capacity of "president" of the family business he conveniently decides to move into the home that he left many years before. Will the Tanaka Clan really be able to resurrect the business together? Or does elder brother Ichiro have some other plans for the business?

Three veteran cops who once dominated the police force have to come up with innovative methods to deal with a new kind of crime. Known at the trident, Cui Tiejun (Chen Jianbin), Xu Guozhu (Dong Yong) and Pan Honghai (Hao Ping) who have all retreated to the second line of defence suddenly come upon a complex money laundering scheme. They face off with an opponent from 20 years ago and various forces seeking to take advantage. Crime has found new means of hacking to obtain large sums of money. The trident employs the best weapons at their disposal as they resort to old school sleuthing skills in an attempt to bring down the crime syndicate in one fell swoop.
