In 1941 one of the Chinese troops, led by Pan Tiande, was defeated by the Japanese, and arrived in the Soviet Union by contacting the Soviet army. Officer Natasha was then responsible for their training. During the following military actions Pang's patriotism and bravery deeply moved Natasha, and they fell in love together. After the founding of New China Pang decided to serve the country as a mechanic worker, and Natasha became a soviet mechanic specialist after college. When they were preparing for the wedding, Natasha was ordered to return to the USSR. The departure was very dramatic. Later, Natasha wrote to Pang that she had settled down on the border, trying to be as close as possible, waiting for him to come one day.

Tae Jung and Seung Young are old junior high classmates. They are reunited when they are assigned to the same army base for their military duty. While Tae Jung is a sergeant near the end of his army service, Seung Young enters later as a private and has a hard time adjusting to army life, which is all about orders and obedience. Tae Jung, in a position of authority, is able to make Seung Young's life easier, but even after time passes, Seung Young is still unable to adjust to the army routine and he becomes more and more isolated from his fellow soldiers. Even Tae Jung is constantly put in awkward situations because of him. Then, after Tae Jung has been discharged, Seung Young slowly starts to change... Later, while out on leave, Seung Young asks to meet with Tae Jung. However, Tae Jung seems to feel uncomfortable around him...

The film is about the invasion of the border by the Rouran army during the Northern Wei Dynasty. The state called for men to join the military. Hua Mulan takes her elderly father place. In the army, Hua Mulan makes good friends but does not want to take people's lives. When new recruits and herself are ordered to rescue the prince, Yuan Hong, she realizes that she must fight to protect her loved ones.
